Race for the Cure

Join others on Saturday June 3rd for either a 1 mile family fun run/walk or a more challenging 5K co-ed run/walk all benefiting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation whose mission is to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. This year will be the 16th annual Race for the Cure race and in this time the foundation has granted over $4 million to organization in Collin, Denton and Greyson counties for the fight against breast cancer. This year alone over $500k has been raised to continue the fight locally.

Facts: This year 212,920 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer with an estimated 40,970 losing this battle. During this same time 1,720 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and of these 460 men will die.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among African American and Latino women.

Every 3 minutes a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer, every 13 minutes a woman will die from this disease.

80% of all breast cancers occur in women with no known risk factors.
