The Ultimate Sacrafice

In rememberance of our fallen heros...

On average, one law enforcement officer is killed somewhere in America every 53 hours. The Dallas Police Department has lost 76 officers in the line of duty dating back to the organization’s inception in 1881. The department lost its first officer on May 24, 1892. That was the day Officer C.O. Brewer became the first Dallas Police officer to make the ultimate sacrifice. The most recent officer killed was Brian Jackson who died on November 13, 2005. At noon on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, the Dallas Police Department will honor all of the officers killed in the line of duty during the Police Memorial Day Observance ceremony on the site of the Police Memorial located at the intersection of Young Street and Akard Street. This year’s ceremony will include the roll call of honor, a prayer, a helicopter fly-over, a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps. There will also be musical selections by the police choir as well as the police & fire bagpipe ensemble.
