Art-A-Rama located at 706 Hillside Drive in Little Elm has been ordered closed after an administrative search warrant was issued to search the property after owners refused to allow town officials to inspect the premises. The search warrant uncovered conditions that could jeopardize the safety of children attending classes in the building.

Some of the issues found by inspectors were: no exit signs, doors not opening correctly, faulty electrical wiring, restrictions in areas leading to exits and exit doors, missing load bearing walls, missing stairwell handrails, lack of proper ventilation for painting equipment as well as a number of other building and plumbing code violations.

Originally opened by Holly Candee in October of 2005 to teach art classes to groups of 6 or less children at a time in a business which was also her residence. The business grew into a day care facility with groups of over 15 children at a time. Over the last seven month many attempts by the town to get the owner to bring the facility into compliance with town codes was ignored and repeated attempts to inspect the property was rebuffed.

These actions necessitated the issuance of an administrative search warrant which uncovered the violations that led to the business being given 24 hours to shut down. The business will remain closed until owners can satisfy the town that all violations have been corrected and proper permitting for the business is obtained.

We here at Arbor Creek Community Blog applaud the fine work our town has done to ensure the safety of the towns youngest residents with their actions.
