Watering Reminder

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I just wanted to remind everyone that for Arbor Creek residents today Monday is the day we are permitted to water our lawns/landscaping. The permitted hours for this is before 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. there is no prohibition about watering your lawns both in the morning and again in the evening if you feel it is necessary.
However it would be pruident for us to be mindful not to use more than absolutly necessary or we may face another shortage in the near future.
While the forecast is for rain on Monday, our lawns, which have been without adequate water for some time now, will require a deep watering to maintain healthy roots. A full inch of water is recommended and I might consider a tad more due to the length of time since our last watering. If we do get rain and it is less than an inch (which I have every reason to believe it will be) then we need add additional water to bring the total up to the recomended amount. Now would be a bad time to add any chemicals to our lawns as they will need a few weeks of TLC before the roots are ready to handle them.
While researching ways to improve my own lawn I came across this bit of information from a garden website devoted to superlawns. "The secret formula for watering is a can of beer (which helps the thatch compost faster into better soil), a cup of children's shampoo (to break water surface tension and wash away dust), half a cup of molasses (more sugars) disolved in half a cup of warm water (so it isn't thick), and top off with household ammonia (for nitrogen).
Note: Pouring beer into soap will make lots of bubbles. Do this over the lawn to prevent a slippery mess.
Spray this liquid onto your lawn about every three weeks, you should also spray it directly over your fall and spring fertilizer sessions.
